Pretend you are a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 children) planning a
trip in 2007 from Michigan to Birmingham, Alabama, just like Mrs. Watson
did in the book. You will need to think of many things before you leave
to make sure that you have enough time and money to make it to your destination.
Your family has $1000 to make it from Michigan to Alabama. Your family
will have only three days to make it there. They must stay at least one
night in a hotel. The car you drive must be one that your family already
owns.
There are two parts:
- A tangible presentation in the form of a Powerpoint, Journal, Itinerary
or anything approved by the teacher.
- Brochure of Alabama
You will have to:
- Obtain a map for each day's travel to plan your route.
- Decide how many miles you will travel per day.
- Find sleeping accommodations with prices.
- Find out how many miles per gallon your car will use and assume that
gas is $2.07/gallon.
- Assume that you will be going the speed limit (70 mph).
- Add in time for traffic jams.
- Decide when and in what city you will purchase gas.
- Find out how much money you will spend on gas.
- Decide how much money you will spend on food.
- Plan three activities that you will attend when you arrive in Alabama.
These activities are included in the $1000 fund.
