I. Lab Report Title

II. Purpose: (What are you investigating? Write this as a question.)
III. Variables:
Independent/Manipulated: (This is the factor or condition that is intentionally changed in the experiment.)

Depending/Responding: (This is the factor or condition that might be affected as a result of the independent variable.)

Controlled/Constants: (This is the variable [or variables] that is not changed.)

IV. Background Information: (What information have you learned in class? And/or the lab introduction that will help you understand what you are investigating?)

V. Hypothesis: (This is your prediction of the answer to the purpose. You should be able to test this statement. Most of the time you can write this in the following format: “If the independent variable increases or decreases, then the dependent variable will increase or decrease.”

VI. Materials/Procedure: (This should be a summary paragraph of what is done during the lab.)

VII. Observations/Data

Qualitative: (These observations describe.)

Quantitative: (These observations measure. They are expressed in number form, usually in a table and/or graph.)
