Dear Community Member:  The school system values feedback from parents and community members in our curriculum review processes, therefore, we would like to invite you to review and provide input on proposed curriculum materials for Science (grades K-12), Health and Physical Education (grades K-12), Mathematics (grades 10-12), and Reading Intervention (grades 9-12).  This review begins Wednesday, October 1, and continues through Friday, October 1, 2008.  Student textbooks and associated teacher resources can be examined at the Instructional Support Center during the dates and times listed.

The Instructional Support Center is located at 437 Old Peachtree Road in Suwanee.  The materials will be located in Building 200.

  • Monday – Friday, October 1 – 31 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 11 and 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, October 9 and 23 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) holds an extensive review before adopting materials for classroom use.  The program directors convened committees to select materials to consider for adoption from those submitted by publishers.  These materials were reviewed for alignment with the school system’s Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum.  During the review process, materials are also piloted (or field tested) in GCPS classrooms.  Data from the reviews and pilots will be considered in making textbook adoption recommendations to the CEO/Superintendent and Board of Education in early 2009.

As you have opportunity, please invite other parents and community members to participate in this materials evaluation.  If you have questions about the instructional materials review process, please contact Anita Thomason in the Instructional Materials Office at 678-301-6831.

Sincerely,

 Lisa Burleson
