District II Board Meeting-Thursday, April 30 at Mill Creek High School

Each year, the Gwinnett County Board of Education goes on the road, meeting once in each Board member’s district. The meetings are a time for the School Board to share information with the public and for citizens to discuss education topics with their elected officials. They also are an opportunity to hear CEO/Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks’ annual address on the state of the school district, focusing on its accomplishments, challenges, and recent initiatives to raise student achievement. The meetings are organized by school clusters, but citizens may attend whichever meeting they prefer.

Please plan to attend an Area Board Meeting. The Board and Superintendent look forward to your participation! The District II Board meeting will be held on Thursday, April 30th at Mill Creek High School.

All meetings begin at 7 p.m. in the host school’s theater, with refreshments served at 6:30 p.m.

6th Grade Career Day

As we plan our 6th Grade Career Day program for this year, we call upon our friends and neighbors to help us provide our children with exposure to the many careers and jobs available in our community. Jones Middle School Career Day will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2009. We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to participate and share information about your occupation with our students. The program will begin at 2:00 and end at 4:00 PM. Our intent is to expose our students to the many diverse occupations available to them in the world of work.

Should you choose to participate in our Career Day, you would need to be prepared to speak with small groups of students for 10-15 minute intervals. The students will ask questions about what duties are required, what training or education you need and what you like/don’t like about your occupation. You will also have a table to set up any visual aids/demonstrations that would help the children understand your occupation. We’d like for you to be available for the entire time frame (set up at 2:00, visit students 2:15-4:00). Remember, your presentation can serve as a springboard to a great future! Please RSVP by April 17th by calling Karen Bevak at 770-904-5488 or sending an email to Karen_Bevak@gwinnett.k12.ga.us. Thank you for taking time out to assist our students! We look forward to having you join us on this eventful day.
