Glenn C. Jones Middle School
Hip-Hop/Break Dancing Club
We meet In the Multipurpose Room from 4:20-5:30
Upcoming dates: March 8, 22, April 12, 19 and May 3.
The purpose is to learn how to dance and practice all kinds of break dancing! Music provided. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes you can dance in! Guest instructor and local Hip-Hop sensation Brandon Herrera has been on hand teaching and demonstrating some cool moves! Come join us!
Name of Club: Photography Club
Mission/Purpose of Club: An introduction to digital photography and photography software. Our goal (by January) is to submit one of your childs best photos to the Hudgens Art Center for an exhibit, and have an opportunity to sell their work. Students must have their own digital camera. A $5.00 donation to the club would assist in developing photos.
Meeting Dates and Times: We will meet 8:15-9:00 the first Tuesday of each month starting in September for meetings and then the art room will be open every Friday for lab work. Please check your homework page for any cancelations.

Mission/Purpose of Club: The purpose of the Reading Club is to inspire JMS students to read. The reader leaders will sponsor reading events and sponsor service projects related to reading.

Name of Club: Intramurals
Mission/Purpose of Club: Middle School students will be exposed to a variety of sports, skills, and activities so that they may refine their interests and choose activities that suit their personal abilities and needs. The program will place an emphasis on total participation and recreation with a focus to remain on fun, enjoyment and effort. The Intramural program will offer an ideal setting to emphasize leadership and socialization skills as students participate in these activities. Students should see Coach Clayton for a permission slip prior to attending.

Name of Club: 8th Grade Boys Basketball Team
Mission/Purpose of Club: To provide a means of competing against other schools in competitive basketball. Physical and Tryouts required. Contract and Consequences will be signed by players and parents.
Meeting Dates and Times: Practice will be held in the mornings or in the afternoons for an hour and a half. Games will be played on Thursday nights and Saturday mornings.
Location of Meetings: Home games will be played at Mill Creek High School, and away games will be played at the opponent’s home court. Practice will be held in the Jones Middle School Gymnasium.

Name of Club: Quiz Bowl Academic Team
Mission/Purpose of Club: The mission of our team is to motivate students to continuously learn and increase academic knowledge and compete with other teams in a friendly, sportsmanlike manner.

Name of Club: 8th Grade Girls Cheerleading
Mission/Purpose of Club: The JMS Cheerleading Squad is made up of selected 8th grade students who meet certain requirements such as satisfactory conduct, effort and grades. The squad’s main purpose is to promote school spirit, develop good sportsmanship among students, foster positive relationships among other Gwinnett County schools, and support the school’s basketball team. Physicals and tryouts are required.

Mission/Purpose of Club: Have students learn to create different craft projects and promote creativity.
Meeting Dates and Times: Have not nailed down exact time but am thinking either twice a month (first and third Thursday of each month) or once a month on second Thursday of the month. Preferably after school but may be in the morning.

Mission/Purpose of Club: (This club is only open to JMS Chorus members and is by
invitation only.)
To enrich the choral program by providing opportunity for only
the men of the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade chorus to practice together.
We will have special male guest artists come and sing and work
with these young men. We will also have sectional rehearsals for
men only.
To provide the opportunity for individual chorus members to build
vocal skills specific to District Honor Chorus, All-State Chorus and LPGE.

Mission: To present the challenge and adventure of growing in the Christian faith.

Name of Club: Jazz Band/Honor Band
The Jones Middle School Honor Band is under the direction of Dr. Tonya Millsap. Named after the influential Gwinnett County educator, Mr. Glenn C. Jones, the school opened in the fall of 2004. The band program is comprised of 240 students in grades six through eight. In the 6th grade, students are placed in either the woodwind or brass/percussion class. Students are grouped by ability level in the 7th and 8th grades. The band meets on Tuesday mornings from 7:45 am until 8:50 am.
The Jones Middle School Honor Band is comprised of the most dedicated 7th and 8th grade students in the program. Students must complete a “pass-off” requirement and commit to an extra-curricular rehearsal schedule to be eligible. Seventh grade students must meet one standard, while 8th grade students are required to achieve a more advanced one.
During its short tenure, the Jones Middle School Band program has achieved a standard of excellence. All bands have earned superior ratings at the GMEA large group performance evaluations, students have consistently earned superior ratings at solo and ensemble festivals, and students have been represented in both district and all-state bands.
In December, 2008, The Jones Middle School Honor Band appeared as one of the “featured” bands at the University of Georgia Middle School Band Festival. In addition the band was invited to perform at the Georgia Music Educators Association Conference in January 2009. The JMS has also been awarded the 2007 and 2008 Southern Star Music Festival “Sweepstakes Award”.
The JMS jazz band is comprised of 7th and 8th grade students wishing to further their knowledge and skill in the area of jazz music. The band meets on Friday mornings from 8:00 am until 8:50 am. The students have the opportunity to learn various styles of jazz, pop and rock music. Concerts are given periodically throughout the year.
Yoga Club
Mission/Purpose: To teach students the fundamentals of Yoga practice and relaxation. Students will follow video-based instruction with guidance from Ms. Bevak. Discussion and practice of healthy stress reduction will be the focus of the sessions.
Daytime/Location of meetings: Every Tuesday 4:15-5:15 (unless otherwise noted) in the multipurpose room behind the gym. All grade levels, male/female and adults are welcome to come. Each week is a little different, so feel free to come any time!

Jones Middle School Golf Club
Mission/Purpose of Club: The purpose of the Jones Middle School Golf Club is to expose students to the fundamentals of golf.
Cost: $10 per session (each Thursday)
Meeting Dates and Times: Meeting dates are every Thursday from 5:00 – 6:00 PM
Location of Meeting: Hamilton Mill Golf Club driving range

Equestrian Club
Mission/Purpose: The goal of Equestrian Club is to promote knowledge of horses and horsemanship. Students will support the Mill Creek Equestrian team and become familiar with community resources which involve horses. Students are welcome to join the middle school competition team. Dues are $20.00 which includes a tee shirt and other activities.
Meeting time: Second Thursday of the month 4:15-5:00 and some Saturdays to support the Mill Creek team and for other activities.

Name of Club: Chess Club
Mission/Purpose of Club: To help enrich, promote, and develop critical thinking and analytical skills. Members will learn chess strategies and have the opportunity to play others in the same ability group. Members of the Chess club may enter regional tournaments during the year.

Name of Club: Relay for Life
Purpose: To help raise funds and awareness for cancer research. It is an opportunity for students to work together for a good cause. We have many families at school that have to live with cancer each and every day and we are here to provide support and hopefully a future cure.
Meeting Dates/Times: No set time. We roughly meet once a month right before an event. Please watch morning announcements for meeting dates/times.
